Savannah SCORE adds mentor

Tim Clemm, who spent most of his career in food service marketing and product development for food and food service manufacturers such as Campbell Soup Co. and Hormel Foods/Diamond Crystal Brands, has joined the team of mentors at Savannah SCORE.

Clemm, formerly of Philadelphia, received his bachelor’s degree from Yale University, his master’s degree from the University of South Carolina and his MBA from Temple University.

His expertise centers on business profit and loss accounting, costing and the relationship between the food service distributor, the operator and the manufacturer. He also has training in website development and optimization, as well as current e-commerce strategies.

Clemm ran his own successful business for five years before selling it.

Nominations sought for Civitas Awards

BEAUFORT, S.C. — The Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 2013 Civitas Awards, which recognize excellence and leadership in the Beaufort County region.

This year’s categories are: Tourism Leadership, Outstanding Employee, Outstanding Lowcountry Young Professional, Outstanding Leadership Beaufort Alumni, Outstanding Nonprofit, Community Stewardship, Excellence in Free Enterprise, Regional Economic Impact, Military Citizenship and Lifetime of Leadership.

The chamber also will recognize a non-commissioned officer of the year, junior enlisted service member of the year and the teachers of the year from Beaufort County.

Nominations are open to the public and are not exclusive to current chamber members.

Westin Hilton Head to host grand reopening

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Gov. Nikki Haley will officially reopen the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday following a $30 million renovation.

“We are thrilled to complete our renewal and delight our guests with our luxury Lowcountry elements and the Westin Pillars of Wellness,” said general manager Tim Freisen.

The Westin is situated within the Port Royal Plantation and seasonal rates for the newly revamped property start at $300.

The renovations included an enhanced arrival and resort landscape with eco-friendly flora, such as live oaks, palmetto trees and native flowers, as well as a Botanical Conservatory and a new lobby with check-in pods replacing a front desk.

The main lobby also features a two-story vertical garden and conservatory, along with an arrival wall that simulates moving water.
